Shanpianshan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is in Shanpian Hill-Laozhai in Gumu Township, Wenshan County, Yunnan. The Shanpianshan Fm was named by No.2 Yunnan Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1973, and was published by Yunnan Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (1990).
Synonym: (闪片山组)
Lithology and Thickness
The formation is represented by a fossiliferous sequence of gray, dark gray medium- to thick-bedded bioclastic limestone and oolitic limestone. It is 15-374 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It rests conformably on the sandstone intercalated with shale at the top of the Dushuke Fm
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the sandstone intercalated with shale at the base of the Laozhai Fm.
Regional extent
The thickness of the Shanpianshan Fm varies considerably along the length of its outcrop. In the vicinity of Xichou, it has a maximum thickness of 374 m; in Wenshan-Pingbian, it recorded a minimum thickness of only about 15 m; in the type area, it is 33.3 m thick.

Fossils
This stratigraphic unit yields trilobites Psilocephalina, Bathynuriscops cf. kantsingensis; brachiopods Tritoechia tangshanensis, Puncttolina sp., Eosotrematorthis cf. sinensis; nautiloid Hopeioceras and sponge Calathium kueichouensis.
